Are you chasing or attracting?

Recently, I was updating my LinkedIn profile, trying to find the right words as usual, and this one line came through so clearly that I ended up putting it right into my tagline:

Don’t chase. Attract.

It really resonated with me. In business, in life, but especially when it comes to how we connect with the right clients.

Because at the end of the day, that’s why we are building personal brands, right? You want your brand to help the right people find you, trust you, and feel like you’re the one for them, even before that first message or call.

From what I’ve seen (and lived), there are three main ways when it comes to getting clients:

First, the chase. Cold messaging, pitching, convincing people to work with you. I know this feeling well.. I worked in sales long ago, and I hated it. It felt exhausting, uncomfortable, and totally out of alignment with how I wanted to work. If you’ve been there, you know how draining it is.

Then, there’s referrals. A dream, right? People come to you with built-in trust. But it’s unpredictable, you never know when the next client will appear.

And finally, there’s attraction. This is where personal branding changes everything. Instead of chasing or waiting, you create something so valuable and visible that when people need your service, they come straight to you. No need to convince, no pressure, just natural, aligned connections.

Instead of chasing or waiting, you create something so valuable and visible that when people need your service, they come straight to you.

One of my mentors shared a metaphor that stuck with me: getting clients is like chasing butterflies. You can run around with a net, hoping to catch one (exhausting!!!), or… you can plant and grow a beautiful, blooming garden that naturally draws them in. Takes time. Takes patience. But it’s all worth it at the end.

When your brand works for you, the right clients come. And this doesn’t happen by accident, but because you’ve created something they trust.

So, ask yourself:

Are you chasing? Waiting? Or attracting?
